- Assault on a Hindu Jagarana Vedike Activist (2018): In the year 2018, Chaitra and five of her associates were arrested and kept in police custody for seven days after a fight with Gururprasad Panja, who was the secretary of Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Sullia.
The clash happened after Chaitra visited the Kukke Subramanya Mutt. Outside a shop near Kashi Katte, her group got into a heated argument with Panja. Things went out of control when one of her aides allegedly attacked Panja with a steel rod.
The fight started because of a disagreement over the “Sarpa Samskara” ritual, a religious ceremony dedicated to the snake god. Chaitra wanted the ritual at the mutt, while Panja wanted it at the temple. The matter even led to a hunger strike by the seer of the Mutt, and the issue became so big that Karnataka’s then Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had to step in and appeal for peace.
- Hate Speech Case (2021): In October 2021, Chaitra once again hit headlines, this time for a hate speech during a Bajrang Dal and Durgavahini event in Surathkal. A complaint was filed by Abdul Khader after her speech went viral online.
She was booked under IPC sections 153A and 505(2) for promoting enmity between groups. In her speech, Chaitra warned the Muslim community to stop what she called “Love Jihad” and said that if Bajrang Dal activists started targeting Muslim girls, burqas would disappear from Muslim households. She even said Hindu symbols like vermilion would be applied to Muslim daughters.
- Cash settlement for MLA Ticket Scam (2023): The was one of the biggest controversy in her career, in the september 2023 when Bengaluru businessman Govind Babu Pujari accused her for cheating him of ₹5 crore. He said Chaitra promised him a BJP ticket to contest the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections from Byndoor constituency.
According to the complaint, Chaitra took ₹3.5 crore, while a seer named Abhinava Halasri Swamiji took another ₹1.5 crore. She told Pujari that the money was handed over to an RSS leader named Vishwanath, who would help secure the ticket. But later, Pujari discovered that no such RSS leader existed.
The case was handed to the Central Crime Branch (CCB), which recovered over ₹2 crore from Chaitra. Reports suggested that she had already used some of the money to buy a car, gold, and make investments.
- Cheating a BJP Member (2023): Chaitra faced another case, with the another BJP worker named Sudheena Pujari from Udupi. This time she was accused that she cheated him of ₹5 lakh by promising to help him open textile shops back in 2015.
Sudheena said that he gave her ₹2 lakh in cash and transferred ₹3 lakh into her bank account. But later, he discovered that the shop was registered in Chaitra’s name. When he asked for his money back, she allegedly threatened to file a sexual harassment case against him.
